About TFM Holdings corenr_block

TFM was first incorporated 51 years ago and was split into three separate groupings in 1998 following management buyouts. In 1993 this split was reversed with the various business entities of the original TFM Group,as well as several other strategic businesses were consolidated into one controlling entity.

TFM was established originally in 1966 by the Modlin family to specialise in truck customisation, maintenance and repair, and then entered the armoured vehicle production industry in the late 1970’s. It is well known for its products such as the Casspir, Nyala, Scout and RG31 military and riot control vehicles, which were used by the United Nations and NATO as well as the SA Security Forces.

The TFM Group specialises in the, manufacturing, supply and support and  importation of specialist truck bodies, primarily for the transport, construction, forestry, cargo body, waste and environmental transport industries.

TFM also manufactures ambulances, armoured vehicles, including cash-in-transit vehicles, components for the automotive and engineering industries, fuel tanks, trailers of all sizes as well as carrying out alterations to truck chassis and supply and fitment of hydraulic kits. The product range even extends to motorcycle and sidecar ambulance combinations for use in remote rural areas in Africa under the eRanger name.

Over the years TFM companies have forged important international alliances with world leaders, such as HEIL (USA), Faun (Germany), Meiller (Germany), Schwing Stetter (Germany and India), Theam (France), PZB (Italy), Cargo Van (Germany), Marathon (USA), Presona (Sweden) and Doppstadt (Germany) which  allows TFM to complement its locally designed products with leading international brands  to support the local market.

In 2017, Kwane Capital, led by Mcebisi Mlonzi, acquired a 63.75% stake in the TFM Group, with Kwane intending to exercise its option to increase its stake to 72.66%. This transaction will increase the overall black ownership in the group from 27.3% to approximately 87.66%.

Managing Director of TFM Industries, Johan van der Merwe comments: “The TFM Group is ready and eager to notch up another 50 years of quality service to existing and new customers”.

The combination of TFM’s leading manufacturing and product support abilities in all sectors, will with Kwane, create a competitive platform to deliver a full service offering of specialist vehicles and their maintenance to customers in the construction, waste, mining, policing, military and defence sectors.
